Mihajlovic and Palkovics: We need to include Northern Macedonia and Greece in the fast railway track project

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic PhD., spoke today with the delegation of Hungary, led by Minister of Innovation and Technology, Laszlo Palkovics on the project of building a fast railway track between Belgrade and Budapest.

At a meeting held during the Eighth Meeting of the Trilateral Working Group of the Republic of Serbia, Hungary and People's Republic of China for the project of reconstruction and modernization of Belgrade-Budapest railway, which was held in Belgrade, Mihajlovic stressed that this railroad is part of an important regional corridor connecting central and southern Europe and that it would therefore need to include other countries in this corridor - Northern Macedonia and Greece.


"Serbia is making a good progress in the implementation of the project, and works are being carried out on two sections from Belgrade to Novi Sad, and we signed commercial contracts for section Novi Sad – Subotica, for which we are to start the works", Mihajlovic said.


Palkovics acquainted Mihajlovic with the latest dynamics in the realization of the project of the reconstruction and modernization of the railway on the territory of Hungary and stressed that the relations between Serbia and Hungary are becoming more and more powerful in various fields.


At the meeting, it was also discussed about possibilities for solving problems related to long waiting time at border crossings, through the simplification of border procedures and the expansion of border crossings.


Two delegations also discussed cooperation in other infrastructure projects in road and water transport, including the construction of the Y branch, the bypass around Subotica and the construction of a ships’ lock on Tisa river.
