Mihajlovic: New record, by September 1st, 37.5 million vehicles on the highways in Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic, PhD, stated that the record for the number of cars on our highways was broken in Serbia again this year.

"From January 1st, 2019, to the end of the summer season, September 1st, 37,551,150 vehicles passed through highways through Serbia, which is 1.2 million more than last year. And this is just another proof of how right we were about insisting as much as possible in transport infrastructure. We have once again shown that Serbia is the traffic hub of the region and that investing in new highways is the best way to grow economically," Mihajlovic said.

She points out that around 60 million vehicles are expected to pass through Serbia's highways by the end of the year, which is 20 million vehicles more than in 2014. Deputy Prime Minister points out that the completion of the highway through Grdelica Gorge and the commissioning of Highway Milos the Great from Obrenovac to Preljina, to Cacak, contributed the most to this year's increase in traffic flow.

"This summer alone, a total of 12.5 million vehicles have passed through Serbia, and only through Grdelica Gorge just over two million vehicles have passed since the toll on June 15th! All these results oblige us to continue to build new highways, but and that we invest in maintaining them to preserve the safety of passengers. Higher toll revenues also enable new investments in substantially enriching our highways," said Mihajlovic.
