Mihajlovic at the opening of Surcin-Obrenovac section of the highway: We have shown that we are capable of great works

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic PhD, attended today, together with the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, the opening of the section of the highway "Milos the Great" from Surcin to Obrenovac.

Vucic congratulated citizens on the completion of the complete highway from Belgrade to Cacak, and said that the constructed roads would enable a better future for Serbia, new investments and new factories. "From today, Belgrade and Cacak are closer to each other, and all the places in between, we used to travel two and a half hours from Belgrade to Cacak, and today it takes an hour," Vucic said, congratulating Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure on a successfully completed project.

Mihajlovic said that with construction of Surcin-Obrenovac, highway Milos the Great is brought to five minutes from Belgrade. “From the constructed 350 kilometers of highway, more than 500 kilometers of rehabilitated tracks, we have shown that nothing is further away in Serbia. This highway is not only a link connecting Obrenovac, Ub, Lajkovac, Ljig and other places in Western Serbia, it is not just a link that helps the economy. This highway is part of our history that reminds us that we have always been capable of great deeds, no matter how difficult,” Mihajlovic said, adding that today this highway is being handed over to the citizens of Serbia to use.

Presidency Member of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, said that highway that opens today allows for a better connection between Serbia and Republika Srpska, and that Serbia has shown that it is the fastest developing country in the region.

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Serbia, H.E. Chen Bo, said that Surcin-Obrenovac section of the highway is important for the development of Serbia and for the cooperation of Serbia and the People's Republic of China.

She added that Serbia has achieved great results in the field of infrastructure, which was also contributed by Chinese companies, as well as that cooperation in infrastructure is an important part of the relations between Serbia and the PRC and an essential content of the "One Belt, One Road" initiative.

Zhang Xiaoyuan, director of CCCC / CRBC in Serbia, which built Surcin-Obrenovac section of the highway, thanked the President of Serbia, Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and all partners for not providing support throughout the project, as well as to Serbian and Chinese workers who contributed to the successful completion of the highway and its release for traffic.

The opening of the highway was attended by Prime Minister, Ana Brnabic, Ministers in the Government of Serbia, representatives of cities and municipalities, companies and workers who participated in the construction of the highway and a large number of citizens.

Surcin-Obrenovac section is the first section of the E-763 Belgrade-South Adriatic highway, 17.6 kilometers long. The project is worth 208 million euros. The main contractor is China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

The works started on May 5th 2017 and were completed before the agreed deadline, which was January 5th 2020.

In addition to the route with complete infrastructure, the project also includes a bridge over Sava and Kolubara river, a viaduct over Ostruznica-Batajnica rail tracks, as well as two loops Surcin and Obrenovac.

The section includes a bridge across Sava and Kolubara river, 1,581 meters long, as well as 11 more bridges, totaling 1,167 m.

Part of the highway are two loops - Surcin and Obrenovac. Surcin loop connects the new motorway route with Belgrade bypass, that is, with the future route from New Belgrade to Surcin, while on Obrenovac loop, the new section of the highway connects with the already built road "Milos the Great" from Obrenovac to Ljig. Surcin loop, until New Belgrade-Surcin connection is built, can be reached by disconnecting from Belgrade-Zagreb highway after Belgrade airport (direction to Ostruznica bridge) from the center of Belgrade, via Banovo Brdo and Ostruznica (direction via Ostruznica bridge to Surcin).

Surcin-Obrenovac section is excluded from the toll collection system. Following the opening of the section from Surcin to Obrenovac, a closed toll system will continue to operate per kilometer, with six toll stations: front in Obrenovac and Preljina and lateral to Ub, Lajkovac, Ljig and Takovo.

Together with the completed sections (Obrenovac-Ub, Ub-Lajkovac, Lajkovac-Ljig and Ljig-Preljina), a continuous full profile of the highway from Belgrade to Preljina with a total length of 120 km will be achieved.
