Mihajlovic to sign an agreement with Russian Railways on the modernization of Bar railway

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic PhD, as part of the visit of Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to Serbia, will sign tomorrow, October 19th, an agreement on the continuation of the modernization of Bar railway.

The agreement on joint realization of the project of modernization of the railway line from Valjevo to the border with Montenegro, Deputy Prime Minister Mihajlovic will sign with the Director General of Russian Railways, Mr. Oleg Belozyorov.

The total length of the non-reconstructed sections of Bar railway from Valjevo to the border with Montenegro is 209.8 kilometers. Modernization of the entire Bar railway line will allow the speed of trains on this section to be restored to 100 km / h. Russian Railways has already reconstructed part of this railway line from Resnik to Valjevo.

During the visit of Prime Minister Medvedev, two more agreements will be signed in the area of railways. The first is an agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on granting a state export credit to the Government of the Republic of Serbia.


New Russian Railways loan is worth EUR 172.5 million, with a contribution from the budget of the Republic of Serbia amounting to EUR 57.5 million, which is a total of EUR 230 million. This will enable the design and construction of a new dispatch center on the railway, the development of design documentation for the continuation of the reconstruction of Bar railway and the construction of electrical infrastructure on the section of Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway line, from Stara Pazova to Novi Sad.


The first of these three projects from the new Russian loan to begin realization is the construction of the new dispatch center. For this project, during the visit of Russian Prime Minister, a contract will be signed on the design and execution of works on construction of railway infrastructure and construction of a unique railway dispatch center. The value of the contract relating to the development of design and project-technical documentation for the new dispatch center is € 9.48 million and will be signed by acting director general of “Infrastructure of Railways of Serbia”, Miroljub Jevtic and general director of “RZD International”, Sergey Pavlov.
