This road direction represents a very important road communication in the function of traffic connection of Serbia with Hungary and Romania, and the position of the section shows its importance and role in the region, in terms of economy. The subject route of the future expressway enables a connection between Bačka and Banat regions with central and western Serbia via the Belgrade – Subotica highway.
Preparatory works are currently underway on the section from km 0+125 to km 2+525, as well as works on the section from km 2+525 to km 8+300 on Section 1. Work are carried out on:
- The section of the route from km 0+225 to km 2+525, as well as at the location of the freight vehicle terminal—except for the part covered by Archaeological Site No. 2—all preparatory works have been completed, including the sub-base layer.
- The section of the route from km 2+525 to km 8+300, clearing and topsoil stripping works are underway, along with subgrade preparation and embankment construction: topsoil excavation from km 3+800 to km 3+925, subgrade preparation from km 3+800 to km 3+925, and embankment construction from km 3+625 to km 3+925.
- Preparatory works planned for the section of the route between chainage km 8+300.00 and km 13+550.00 are currently not being executed.
- The relocation and underground cabling of a portion of the 20 kV overhead line ‘Bački Breg’ – ‘Gakovo’ at chainage km 2+565 have been carried out.
The physical progress of preparatory works on Section 1 stands at approximately 35%.
Estimated value: 1.75 billion euros
The project financing is provided through the budget of the Republic of Serbia and a credit facility from the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM Bank).
Fast traffic route of IB category, border crossing with Hungary (Bački Breg) - Sombor - Kula - Vrbas - Srbobran - Bečej - Novi Bečej - Kikinda - border crossing with Romania (Srpska Crnja) and divided into the following sections:
- Section 1: Bački Breg - Sombor interchange, with a length of 22.7 km.
- Section 2: Sombor interchange - border of the municipality of Kula, with a length of 18.1 km.
- Section 3: Border of the municipality of Kula - border of the municipality of Vrbas, with a length of 26.4 km.
- Section 4: Border of the municipality of Vrbas - border of the municipality of Srbobran/A1/E75 interchange, with a length of 14.3 km.
- Section 5: Border of the municipality of Srbobran/A1/E75 interchange - border of the municipality of Bečej,
- with a length of 12.7km;
- Section 6: From the border of the municipality of Bečej to the border of the municipality of Novi Bečej, along the Tisa River, spanning a length of 18.8 km.
- Section 7: From the border of the municipality of Novi Bečej along the Tisa River to the border of the city of Kikinda (Danube-Tisa-Danube canal, Kikinda canal), spanning a length of 35.1 km.
- Section 8: extending from the city boundary of Kikinda (along the Danube–Tisa–Danube Canal, Kikinda Canal)
- to the ‘Kikinda East’ interchange, and continuing from the ‘Kikinda East’ interchange in the direction of Nakovo, with a total length of 17.7 km, and
- Section 9: from the Kikinda East interchange to the border crossing with Romania (Srpska Crnja), spanning a length of 19.7 km.
The construction of the following is planned: The project includes 46 bridges (spanning canals and road passages); 34 overpasses; 5 underpasses; 35 culverts; and 12 grade-separated junctions (interchanges), detailed as follows: Sombor, Kljajićevo, Sivac, Crvenka, Kula, Vrbas West, Vrbas North, Vrbas East, Vrbas E75, Srbobran North, Turija, and Kikinda East. Additionally, the construction of 13 surface roundabouts is also planned.
